The new feature streamlines retail purchases within the booking process, enhancing camper convenience and boosting franchise profitability

Billings, Mont. Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) is pleased to announce the success of its recently launched reservation add-ons feature, an enhancement to its proprietary booking platform, K2, that allows guests to purchase key camping items such as firewood, ice, and visitor passes at the time of reservation. The new feature is already driving operational efficiency, improving guest experiences, and boosting bottom-line performance across the KOA network.

As of mid-May, 42% of KOA locations (210 campgrounds) have activated reservation add-ons. Campgrounds can decide which retail items they want to feature in the platform, choosing from camp store best-sellers, to local or promotional products. The feature has generated over $140,000 in ancillary revenue to date, with the most popular items including necessities like firewood, firestarter supplies, ice, visitor’s passes, and equipment rentals like golf carts and kayaks.

“As a leader in outdoor hospitality, our team is always seeking innovative ways to remove barriers for campers, helping them get to the memorable part of their adventure more quickly,” shared Cole Reinhardt, Vice President of Digital Strategy at KOA. “Offering guests the ability to add retail items to their reservation eases the planning process while helping our campgrounds better anticipate and meet guest needs. For our franchise system, the add-ons drive incremental revenue, improving operational efficiency by aligning inventory planning with actual demand.”

KOA’s reservation add-ons are built into both the online reservation process and the front desk workflow, allowing staff to promote options in-person while giving campers the flexibility to customize their stay with just a few clicks.

The feature’s design aligns with a larger industry trend toward personalization and digital optimization in travel and hospitality. For campgrounds, it offers a practical pathway to unlock untapped retail revenue without disrupting existing operations or guest flow. Following this initial launch, KOA plans to develop further enhancements to the reservation add-ons.
