KOA NEWS SERVICE (February 17, 2017) – The newest addition to the 503-location Kampgrounds of America system in North America is the Chincoteague Island, Virginia KOA.

The more than 400-site campground was formerly known as the Maddox Family Campground and is located at 6742 Maddox Boulevard on picturesque Chincoteague Island.

The campground, which is under new management, is currently undergoing extensive remodeling and updating, and is scheduled to have a Grand Opening Memorial Day Weekend May 26-29.

The campground is currently taking reservations for the 2017 season for RV camping, tent camping and cabins. Make reservations by calling 800-562-7730 or reserve online at koa.com/campgrounds/chincoteague/. Seasonal and monthly rates are also available.

The 200-acre camping facility has more than 400 sites for recreational vehicles and tents, and is adding 10 new Deluxe Cabins that will be available starting May 26. Each Deluxe Cabin includes its own bathroom and kitchen, flat screen TV, screened porch and a view of the wetlands marsh. Linen packages for the Cabins will be available, or campers can chose to bring their own bedding and towels.

Other major upgrades planned for the campground include new bathhouses, a remodeled store and new recreational areas, as well as newly paved roads and plenty of 50-amp full-hookup RV sites. There’s also the Soggy Dollar Tiki Bar and Soggy Dollar Food Truck, as well as a pavilion and activity room.

“We are absolutely thrilled to add the Chincoteague Island KOA to our KOA family of campgrounds,” said Toby O’Rourke, Chief Franchise Operations Officer for Kampgrounds of America, Inc. “KOA is all about providing the very best camping experience to our guests, and the staff and owners of the Chincoteague Island KOA obviously share our philosophy. It’s going to be a great place for families and groups, and a definite ‘must visit’ for our East Coast campers.”

The Chincoteague Island KOA has a number of “themed weekends” planned for 2017, including a Pool Dance Party June 3; School’s Out Pool Party June 17; Stars & Stripes Extravaganza June 1-4; Tailgate Party Sept. 9; Cork & Canvas Festival Oct. 14; and a Halloween Spooktacular Oct. 27-29.
